Is technology driving us crazy. Yes it is. Within the last year I have found that I am losing my mind to passwords and user names. Passwords at work, passwords at home: email, telephone, smart phone, banking, bill payment, online shopping, voicemail, how can my feeble mind retain all this info. This wouldn't be so bad if you could maintain the same passwords and user id for everything but where one site requires you to create a user name of not less than 15 numbers and 10 letters in an alternating pattern, another site wants you to create a user name with the first last and middle letter capitalized ending in a number and should be no less than 5 characters but not exceeding 20. What??? let's not talk about passwords, at work the email password is some random mash up of letters and numbers unrelated to me, and my computers password expires every 90 days and I cannot use the same password until after 180 days. I GIVE UP!
Even worse is if you forget you password (which you are bound to do) now you have to remember some answer to the secret society question: If the walls have ears and a tree fell in Brooklyn and it rained in Chicago, your Mother's Maiden name would be... so after 3 attempts you finally remember the answer but you wont be told your password on the spot, now you have to either a. create a new one or b. log into another email account and you get there only to realize you don't remember that password either.
I've invested in one of those apps for my phone that stores passwords but I have so many accounts I've become a bit lazy so I still resort to writing them on little scraps of papers and post-its that are scattered in boxes and draws and handbags and wallets. Will I ever get my life organized?
